PlayStation VR Still Works on PS5 Except it’s a Little More Complicated

PlayStation 5 has officially launched on November 12 in North America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea. It also launched alongside some new accessories: Media Remote, HD Camera, and the Dualsense Controller. Unfortunately, we have not seen a new version of the original PlayStation VR, but at least it is compatible with the PS5.

PlayStation VR games are included in the long list of PS4 games which are playable on the PS5. Except playing PS VR on the PS5 is a little more complicated than its ancestor. It requires PS VR headset, PlayStation Camera for PS4 and a PlayStation Camera adaptor. Sony’s new HD Camera will not support PS VR, which is a little strange.

A PlayStation Camera adaptor is an anomaly in the setup. It isn’t purchasable and instead, you must visit the PlayStation website, enter your serial number on your processor unit, and then finally enter your shipping details in so Sony can send you the adapter. Fortunately, it is free but seems like a long drawn out process just to get PS VR working again.

Sony also recommends using the Dualshock 4 controller instead of PS5’s new Dualsense controller. Games seem to be already optimised with a Dualshock 4, but I am sure they are leaving this open for a future PlayStation VR which is native to the PS5.

Luckily, both the PlayStation Move controllers, and the PS VR Aim Controller can connect to the PS5 without the use of another adapter.

If you want to continue playing PlayStation VR on the PS5, then you can order a PS Camera Adapter here.
