Studio Ghibli Inspired Platformer, Out Of Line, Launches On Switch Today

Developer Nerd Monkeys and publisher Hatinh Interactive have launched their Studio Ghibli inspired puzzle platformer, Out of Line, onto the Nintendo Switch today.

The award-winning hand-drawn puzzle platformer that launched on PC back in June, has finally come to the Nintendo Switch. Out of Line released to rave reviews over on Steam, garnering a whopping 92% positive review score. The game, which is all about self-discovery, was inspired by Studio Ghibli, modern philosophy and impressionist art, according to the developer. They refer to it as “an enchanting children’s book brought to life.” Nerd Monkey’s Lead Artist, Francisco Santos, spoke about how Out of Line “pushes artistic innovation”.

Out of Line is an intelligent and poetic quest for identity told through a collection of interactive masterpieces […] It pushes artistic innovation beyond pixels, inviting players to relax and reflect as they guide San toward liberty.”

What Is Out Of Line?

Out of Line is a puzzle platformer about discovering the value of freedom “in the face of abject tyranny.” You’ll take on the role of San as he searches for his identity. According to the developers, the puzzle-based gameplay has been completely adapted for the Nintendo Switch. The gameplay itself revolves around San’s spear of light, which can be used for puzzle solving. As the game progresses, the puzzles will get harder. Players are expected to “think outside the box” when it comes to figuring out the solution to each puzzle. Here’s some of what you can expect in Out of Line:

  • Explore lucious hand-drawn enviroments as you progress though your journey of self-discovery
  • Solve dozens of challenging puzzles
  • Meet and learn from a colourful cast of characters
  • Uncover San’s mystery and help him figure out who he truly is
