Nimoyd: Endless Possibilities – Demo Preview

When Steam Next Fest started there were particular games that I wanted to try. Titles such as Sable, Bear & Breakfast and Rogue Spirit had already caught my attention before the festival had even begun. But despite being appealed by its eye-catching thumbnail, with Nimoyd, I was practically going in blind. But when I say I didn’t know what I was getting myself in for with Nimoyd, I genuinely mean it. So, I’m sure you can imagine that my overwhelming joy at how excellent Nimoyd turned out to be was not only surprising but extremely wonderful.

Nimoyd often works best when you’ve got no idea what you’re doing.”

Nimoyd is a vast and complex title with a lot going on seemingly all at once. From the get-go, you get a ton of customisation options, including deciding which hero you’re going to play as. It really caught me off guard as I wasn’t expecting as much detail and customisation as I was offered. Refreshingly, it’s not all that confusing to sift through. Once you’re dropped into the vast open world, there’s a ton of tutorials contextualising everything for you.

Nimoyd often works best when you’ve got no idea what you’re doing. From the moment I was able to freely control my character, I was mesmerised by what lay before me. Running off in any direction would result in uncovering an outstanding level of detail across the randomly generated world. While the movement of my character didn’t always control perfectly, the joy in exploring a whole new world more than made up for that.

“From crafting and exploring to combat and resource gathering, whenever you are engaging in the game’s bountiful systems you’ll find that there’s a lot to do.”

And what a visually stunning world it is. The incredibly detailed pixel art aesthetic brings to life a world quite unlike our own. From sprawling grassy plains to vast deserts inhabited by raiders and fearsome creatures hellbent on ruining your day, Nimoyd’s worlds are a sight to behold. There is a genuine sense of wonder to be had as you explore. This is all thanks to the game’s phenomenal art style and animations.

Furthermore, from crafting and exploring to combat and resource gathering, whenever you are engaging in Nimoyd’s bountiful systems you’ll find that there’s a lot to do. Simply by gathering resources and exploring the world, you’ll level up. Doing so will net you new things to construct, which will open up entirely new aspects of the game. Once you get past the opening tutorial, Nimoyd really shows off what it can do with its vast list of available items to construct. This system of levelling up to unlock new items creates an extremely satisfying gameplay loop that I quickly found myself lost in.

“This is a visually stunning game with a surprising amount of depth on offer.”

For fans of open-world sandbox adventures, Nimoyd is well worth checking out. It is a visually stunning game with a surprising amount of depth on offer. While it may seem overwhelming at first, Nimoyd does a good job of gently easing you into its world and systems. I can’t wait for the full release just so I can see Nimoyd at its maximum potential.

Be sure to head on over to Nimoyd’s Steam store page to try the demo out for yourself. You can also wishlist it on Steam to be notified of any future updates.
