Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Does the New Zealand Trick Work?

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is only a day away, but players hoping to get their hands on it early might be wondering whether the New Zealand trick will work for the game.

The New Zealand trick is a method in which players switch their console’s region to New Zealand in order to play a game early. It works if a game releases at midnight local time, as then people in New Zealand will unlock the game before anyone else. However, this doesn’t work for every game and can be a little tricky on PlayStation. Below, we explain if this trick works for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Does the New Zealand Trick Work With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?

Yes, you can likely use the New Zealand trick to play Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 early due to it almost certainly releasing at midnight local time worldwide. This means that players in New Zealand will get the game a few hours earlier than everyone else because midnight there is still the day before for everyone else. Of course, it is worth noting that Insomniac Games has not confirmed the official release time. Nevertheless, it will likely be at midnight local time globally.

However, to do the New Zealand trick on PlayStation, you will need to not only set up a New Zealand account on your console but also purchase Spider-Man 2 through that region’s PlayStore. Essentially, you need to trick your console into believing that you bought Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in New Zealand.

Of course, it’s up to you whether or not it’s worth the hassle of purchasing it through another region’s PlayStore using PlayStation vouchers from that region. However, considering it only gives you a few hours of early access, it’s not recommended. Nevertheless, now you know you can begin pre-loading the game before its release tomorrow.
