God of War: Ragnarok First Look

GOD OF WAR RAGNAROK

The PlayStation Showcase held a huge amount of surprises, but one game that everyone was expecting to see was God of War: Ragnarok. Of course, we had to wait until the very end, but we got what we wanted.

A Growing Boy

The first thing that is obvious is that Atreus is older here. Not only that, but tensions seem to be even higher between Kratos and his son. Atreus still seems to be full of questions regarding his heritage and is keen to trace who he is. Kratos, on the other hand, is still sick of being the titular God of War. He is done with war, but the trailer shows quite clearly that war may not be done with him.

Something Old, something New

The trailer shows us a fair amount of characters, some in full, some only glimpsed. Returning we our old friend and favourite talking head Mimir, as well as the Dwarf brothers Brok and Sindri.

We see a wonderfully vague glimpse of a man from behind, a hammer strapped to his side, as lighting flits around it. This can only really be one person… ahem… god, can’t it?

And so it seems that Thor will play a major part in the new story also, as well as the previously presumed-dead giant Tyr.

Weapons of War

We also saw a nice bit of gameplay, with Kratos’ Blades of Chaos and the Leviathan Axe making a comeback in glorious 4K. The action looks even more stunning than what the previous game had to offer, and God of War: Ragnarok really seems to be adding a slew of new abilities for both Kratos and Atreus.

Well, some of them”… and leaves us with a shrug. This was a perfect end for the showcase as a whole, leaving us with just enough, whilst also letting us know that there is more to come. We also didn’t see a release date for God of War: Ragnarok here, which could have been something else she was hinting at…
