Genshin Impact receives its next update right at the beginning of the new year, with Fleeting Colors in Flight going live on January 5, 2022. The new content was shared in the Version 2.4 special livestream on the official Genshin Impact Twitch channel.
As the Chinese New Year is on February 1, the update coincides with the Lantern Rite Festival event in the game. Moreover, new characters Shenhe and Yun Jin make their first appearance. The new version also introduces the Enkanomiya zone.
Characters
As with every update, there are new characters in Version 2.4. First, Shenhe is a 5-star Cryo polearm user. Her ability buffs the other party members’ Cryo damage scaled off her ATK stat. The second character is, Yun Jin, a 4-star Geo polearm user. Her ability improves normal attack damage based on her DEF stat.
For banners, the update will also feature reruns. Both banners will be double banners. The first banner features Shenhe alongside Xiao and will go live on January 5. The second banner will see Ganyu make a rerun alongside Zhongli.
On top of the 5-star characters, the “Prosperous Partnership” allows the player to obtain any of the available 4-star Liyue characters for free. The choices are Xiangling, Beidou, Xingqiu, Ningguang, Chongyun, Xinyan, and of course, Yun Jin.
Enkanomiya
Players who paid attention to the dialogue and texts in the previous versions will remember the Moon-Bathed Deep world quest. For those who need a refresher, the quest involves collecting fragments to unlock the Heart of Watatsumi where the player obtains a key.
That key unlocks the previously inaccessible Enkanomiya zone, a hostile underwater island. A new territory also means new enemies; the new Bathysmal Vishaps make their debut along with the Abyss Lector Fathomless Flames. If there are any puzzle fans out there, Enkanomiya will be a delightful experience.
Story
Players will remember that the Traveler’s first foray into Liyue culminates with the destruction of the Jade Chamber, Ninguang’s palace-in-the-sky, which also happened to be a superweapon that can defeat divine beings. While not much about the story has been revealed in Version 2.4 beyond Enkanomiya, it seems that Ninguang will attempt to rebuild the Jade Chamber and the story quests will mainly be centred around that effort.
Meanwhile, the Lantern Rite Festival offers more or less the same games and rewards as the previous one. The festival questline involves the player mainly assisting NPCs in preparing for the festivities and having some fun while doing it.
Skins
While miHoYo tries to run a very tight, leak-free ship, Ninguang and Keqing’s skins were leaked before the big reveal. The new skins were confirmed in the Version 2.4 trailers though and will be made available to players in the coming update.
