Everything Announced At The 15th June E3 2021 Nintendo Direct

Nintendo’s long-awaited E3 Nintendo Direct finally rolled around with announcements of returning franchises and much-anticipated gameplay reveals.

What Was Announced?

The Nintendo Direct was probably one of the most anticipated events of the past few days. With fans clamouring for gameplay or a release date for Breath of the Wild 2 and for Metroid Prime 4 news, expectations were high. What we got was a combination of ports, returning franchises and new gameplay teases for upcoming games. Whether or not it was disappointing, Nintendo sure delivered where it counts.

While the event was only 40 minutes, one of the shorter events this E3, we appreciate not everyone has the time to watch them. So, we’ve compiled a list of everything that was showcased during the Nintendo Direct. If you do fancy watching the event, you can do so here. But for those who just want to know the nitty-gritty details, here’s everything that was announced.

The Announcements

  • Kazuya from Tekken is coming to Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. They showcased his various moves, including his famous 10-hit combo, as well as his new map. Sakurai announced he is doing a full presentation on Kazuya on the 28th of June at 7am PT/10am ET
  • Life is Strange: Remastered Collection and Life is Strange: True Colours are coming to the Nintendo Switch. The Remastered Collection is coming sometime this year, while True Colours is launching on September 10th.
  • Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was announced to be coming to the Nintendo Switch. It will arrive this October 26th
  • Worms Rumble will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on June 23rd. A patchwork bear outfit will be coming to the game exclusive for the Nintendo Switch. It will be available for free for up to 2 weeks after launch.
  • Astria Ascending the turn-based combat JRPG is coming to the Nintendo Switch on September 30th
  • Two Point Campus, the “wholesome management sim”, will be arriving on the Switch next year
  • For Super Monkey Ball’s 20th anniversary, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania was announced. It is coming on October 5th
  • Mario Party Superstars brings 5 classic boards from the N64 era and 100 mini-games from across the series catalogue into one package. All of the game modes will work with online play, and you’ll be able to save your progress mid-game. It will be available from October 29th
  • Nintendo announced the latest entry in the Metroid franchise, Metroid Dread. It is a 2D platformer, and the first 2D Metroid game to be released in roughly 19 years. It will launch on the 8th of October 2021 alongside amiibo figures based on the game.
  • Just Dance 2022 will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on November 4th
  • Cruis’n Blast, the “arcade smash hit” is coming to the Switch as a console exclusive. Expect nearly 30 “over the top tracks” when it launches this fall
  • Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and the A New Power Awakens set is coming to the Nintendo Switch this September 24th
  • We got a Mario Golf: Super Rush deep dive which focused on each of the game modes. These include standard golf, speed golf, battle golf and golf adventure. Nintendo also confirmed that free updates will be added post-launch. These include additional courses and characters
  • Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin received a gameplay showcase. They confirmed that there will be co-op multiplayer quests and battles. It is releasing this July 9th with a free demo coming on June 25th
  • WarioWare: Get It Together was announced. It will include “micro-game mayhem” as well as 2 player co-op microgames. It is launching on September 10th with pre-orders beginning today
  • Shin Megami Tensei 5 received a narrative trailer and a gameplay trailer. They focused on the “sprawling demon ingested wasteland” you can explore, as well as the combat and ally mechanics. It will be available This November 12th and will be exclusive to switch. Pre-orders for the physical edition begin June 21st
  • Danganronpa: Decadence is coming to the Nintendo Switch. It includes three of the mainline games from the series. Additionally, it also includes the board game from Danganronpa v3 Killing harmony which has been expanded into a standalone game titled Danganronpa S Ultimate Summer Camp. It will be a physical exclusive for the Nintendo Switch and is coming later this year. All four games will be individually available on the Nintendo eShop later this year
  • FATAL FRAME: Maiden of Black Water the horror adventure game will be available later this year
  • Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part One will be launching on the Nintendo Switch later today
  • Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 is coming to the Nintendo Switch on June 25th
  • Strange Brigade is coming to the Nintendo Switch later today
  • Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope got a trailer. It is launching in 2022
  • The original two Advanced Wars games are returning. They are being reimagined and rebuilt from the ground up. It is a bundle title called Advance Wars 1 + 2 Re-Boot Camp. It will be available from December 3rd
  • The expansion for Hyrule Warriors got a trailer detailing the first DLC. Wave 1 is titled Pulse of the Ancients and will be available from June 18th. Wave 2 is called Guardian of Remembrance and is coming out this November 2021
  • The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD got a gameplay showcase. It will be coming out this July 16th
  • Nintendo announced a Game & Watch pocket device that lets you play three of the original Legend of Zelda games. These include The Legend of Zelda, Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link, the Gameboy version of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening as well as a special version of the Game & Watch title Vermin with Link as the main character. There will also be a playable clock based on The Legend of Zelda, plus an interactive timer themed after Zelda 2. It is coming this November 12th
  • Breath of the Wild 2 received new footage. It showcased some floating islands and brief snippets of gameplay. It is coming in 2022

What Did You Think?

It was certainly exciting to see some Breath of the Wild 2 gameplay, that’s for sure. And while I was personally hoping for an altogether different game to be announced, there were still some things announced during this Nintendo Direct that caught my attention. But what about you?
