This article contains spoilers for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Every Villain in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

There are 13 villains in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. They are:

  • Venom
  • Kraven the Hunter
  • Lizard
  • Mr. Negative
  • Wraith
  • Mysterio
  • Sandman
  • Chameleon
  • Cletus Kasady/Carnage
  • Scream
  • Tombstone
  • Scorpion
  • Doc Ock

Below, we outline who each of these villains is and what role they have in the hotly anticipated sequel.

Venom

Venom, one of Spider-Man’s most notorious villains, is the primary antagonist of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Typically, the Venom Symbiote bonds with Eddie Brock in the comics. However, in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, it has joined with Peter Parker’s long-time friend, Harry Osborne.

Of course, Peter also bonds with the Venom Symbiote during the game, granting him immense powers and altering his behavior and mood.

Kraven the Hunter

Kraven in the jungle in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Kraven the Hunter, also known as Sergei Kravinoff, is a formidable Spider-Man villain obsessed with hunting the strongest foe. After deciding he wants to find his greatest hunt, he turns his sights on New York and its many supervillains and heroes as new prey.

Unfortunately for the two Spider-Men, Kraven is coming for them, as well as their enemies. Kraven is one of the major antagonists in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and serves as a big brute to fight in between the more personal moments with Peter and Harry.

Lizard

The Lizard with its tongue out in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

The Lizard, also known as Dr. Connors, makes an appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as a key villain. The once-reputable doctor turned himself into a monstrous lizard by injecting himself with lizard DNA.

We know he attacked New York before the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as you can find a backpack in the first game that references a fight between Spider-Man and the lizard during his early days of crime fighting. Unfortunately, it is a not-so-fun reunion for the Lizard and Spider-Man in the sequel.

Mr. Negative

Martin Li in a prison jumpsuit in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Mr. Negative, also known as Martin Li, was a central villain in Marvel’s Spider-Man and was responsible for the death of Miles Morales’s dad, Jefferson Davis. Miles’ voice actor, Nadji Jeter, has spoken about how the return of Martin Li will affect Miles in a big way during a panel at the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con.

During Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Kraven breaks Li out of prison in order to fight with him. This forces Miles to confront him all over again and go on a quest for personal revenge that takes plenty of twists and turns.

Wraith

Wraith in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Wraith, also known as former cop Yuri Watanabe from the first game, is a minor anti-hero in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 who is obsessed with taking down The Flame cult. You’ll help and come toe-to-toe with Wraith, who is not quite the Yuri we all fondly remember from Marvel’s Spider-Man.

You’ll only encounter Wraith during The Flame-based side quests, but she still has an important role to play in Peter’s personal journey of figuring out what kind of Spider-Man he wants to be.

Mysterio

Mysterio in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Mysterio, real name Quentin Beck, appears in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as a supposedly reformed villain who is now running a revolutionary VR company called Mysterium. Of course, not everything is as it seems with the Master Illusionist, and you’ll have to fight him quite a few times in arena-based challenges.

Mysterio is only a minor villain in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, appearing in the Mysterium side content as well as the finale mission for the Mysterium quests.

Sandman

Sandman in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Sandman, whose real name is Flint Marko, is the very first villain you’ll take down as he wreaks havoc on New York. You won’t encounter him for very long, and he’s really just a minor villain to help you get settled into the new mechanics of the game.

However, there is an extended series of side quests surrounding him, his mental health, his relationship with his daughter, and the real reason he turned into Sandman at the beginning of the game.

Chameleon

Chameleon in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Chameleon, also known as Dmitri Smerdyakov, makes a very brief cameo at the end of the Unidentified Targets side quest as he watches Miles from a rooftop.

It is possible that he’ll make a return in a future title, but for now, he’s resigned to being a very minor villain that you don’t even get to fight.

Cletus Kasady/Carnage/The Flame

Cletus Kasady in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Cletus Kasady, known as The Flame in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, is a key villain during The Flame side quests. While his identity is kept a secret for much of the side quest, you eventually learn that it is indeed Cletus Kasady. Unfortunately, you learn this just as he gets his hands on the Symbiote, which turns red, hinting at the appearance of Carnage.

Unfortunately, Carnage doesn’t appear in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as Cletus Kasady runs away at the end of the mission. However, he’s sure to appear in either DLC or the next mainline game as a terrifying villain.

Scream

Scream in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Scream, the spawn of Venom, makes a very brief appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 when she takes over MJ. You have to fight her after Venom escapes you once again.

While her appearance is short-lived, it serves as an emotionally charged scene in which MJ’s deepest and darkest frustrations about Peter are revealed.

Tombstone

Tombstone in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Tombstone makes a small cameo in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as one of Kraven’s targets. You don’t actually fight Tombstone. Instead, he has reformed himself and now works as a Go Kart manager at Coney Island.

Instead, you’ll actually try and save Tombstone from being taken by Kraven. It’s a fun twist and makes for a great cameo.

Scorpion

Scorpion makes a return from Marvel’s Spider-Man as one of the prisoners Kraven breaks out in order to fight. However, Scorpion’s time in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is short-lived as he is promptly killed by Kraven.

Doc Ock

Doc Ock appears in the final moments of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in a post-credit scene. During the scene, Norman Osborn goes to him to ask what the real identities of the Spider-Men are. You can read all about his appearance in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in our post-credits explanation guide.

Rhino & Vulture

Rhino in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Rhino and Vulture both make small cameos but aren’t really in the game at all. Vulture is mentioned as having been killed by Kraven, and Rhino appears during a dream-like sequence inside Peter’s mind.

And that is every villain that appears in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Make sure to check out our Game Hub for all our other articles and guides on the game.
