‘Core’ Launches Into Early Access On The Epic Games Store

Developer Manticore Games have launched their free user-generated content platform, Core, into early access exclusively on the Epic Games Store.

Core, a platform that supports user-generated content (UGC), has been in Alpha for the past year. Throughout its development phase, it has welcomed over one million players and creators. Now, Manticore Games are releasing it into Early Access exclusively on the Epics Games Store. Chief Creative Officer and co-founder of Manticore Games, Jordan Maynard, spoke about their dream of giving the “power of creation” to everyone, and the things people are already doing with it.

Core’s games showcase what’s possible when the power of creation is made accessible to anyone […] We built Core to open gaming to a new wave of creators from all backgrounds. That new generation is already publishing amazing experiences that rival those of big studios or that big studios wouldn’t even think of making.”

What Is Core?

Core is a platform in which users can either create their own games or access its huge library of pre-existing content. It currently supports more than 20,000 free playable games and is receiving 200 new or updated games daily. Content creators can create games with Core even if they have absolutely no coding experience. It also apparently offers the “most creator-friendly economy of any UGC-platform”. It offers creators 50% of the revenue generated from their game. While in Early Access, Manticore Games intend to add brand-new features. They plan to add virtual events and persistent housing for players. They are also adding a physics-based vehicle system and an assets marketplace for creators.

To celebrate Core’s launch into Early Access, Manticore Games are offering exclusive heroes and mounts for a limited time. This is available to players who create a new account via the Epic Games Store, or for players who link their existing account to the Epic Games Store. Furthermore, a live event is being hosted that will showcase various games developed using Core, as well as their developers. It is being hosted by The Game Awards’ Geoff Keighley and will be accessible via Twitch starting at 10:00 a.m. PDT/19h CEST or you can see it on-demand on YouTube.
