Catie in MeowmeowLand: A Cosy Adventure – Demo Preview

The Big Adventure Event is a digital event on Steam that celebrates indie adventure games, and there are plenty of fantastic playable demos. Catie in MeowmeowLand, developed by ARTillery and published by Blowfish Studios and Gamera Game, quickly caught my eye, because honestly, who wouldn’t want to visit a land of cats.

As previously mentioned, Catie in MeowmeowLand is a traditional point-and-click adventure game, set in a world of cats. Speech bubbles appear over the points of interest, and the cursor turns into a cat paw when trying to solve the puzzles.

“The storyline is quite straightforward and draws inspiration from a popular fantasy story.”

Point-and-clicks can normally be difficult to navigate. Fortunately, this game is relativity simple and made me feel as if I was playing through a video game version of The Eleventh Hour by Graeme Base. However, I did tend to just click away to find out what goes next, but after the first playthrough, you’ll definitely be wanting to go back in to see what you missed.

The storyline is quite straightforward and draws inspiration from a popular fantasy story. Catie follows a strange white cat in her garden and falls into a rabbit hole, landing in the world of MeowmeowLand — Sound Familiar? Now, the only way for Catie to return home is to solve 24 stunning 2D hand-drawn levels.

Catie in MeowmeowLand has a gorgeous art style that will remind you of nostalgic children’s book illustrations. Plus, there are cats absolutely everywhere, so you can already guarantee a great time. Furthermore, the art style makes the game easier to understand, opening the doors to an audience that might not be typical adventure game lovers.

“Catie in MeowmeowLand is a bizarre game that will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.”

There are hints along the way by a delightful bird carrying a scroll. Here, you can click away to make the game finish faster, but if you’re like me, you can just sit back and enjoy the cosiness of the game. The comfortability transfers into the game’s sound design as well, with humourous voices and sounds bringing the game to life.

Catie in MeowmeowLand is a bizarre game that will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The demo will take you about 20 mins, with 5 playable levels. The final level is longer than the rest, but that may have come down to me not knowing the clicking sequence. Overall, any cat lover should check out this game, and even if you’re not, the illustration and comical humour will easily win you over.

Catie in MeowmeowLand will release sometime in Q1 2022 on Steam. There is no definite release date yet. You can play the demo now as part of Steam’s The Big Adventure Event.
