Campaign 3 Announced in New Critical Role Video

Matt, Marisha, and Travis took to a very comfy couch this week to give fans a new ‘State of the Role’ update, including the long-awaited date of the premiere of Campaign 3.

After the tearful end of The Mighty Nein’s Campaign 2 earlier this year, fans have been eagerly awaiting information about the elusive Campaign 3. We’ve had hints and tit-bits of info dropped here and there. Fortunately, in this week’s State of the Role, the news we’ve all been waiting for was revealed.

You can watch the update for yourself by checking out the video below.

An Entirely New Campaign

The aim for Campaign 3 seems to have a focus on accessibility. This is why the new campaign will be a fresh start with a completely new story, entirely new characters, on a totally new continent (almost).

The campaign begins on the continent of Marquet, following a new group of adventurers as they navigate the turbulence of life in Exandria. While we have seen a small snippet of Marquet before, way back in Campaign 1, we can expect the location to be as new, exciting and full of mystery as Wildmount was when Campaign 2 began. No previous knowledge is necessary!

The new campaign will be great for newcomers to the show and people who have wanted to give Critical Role a try before but who have felt a bit daunted by the sheer amount of hours and lore already established. Additionally, long-time fans can still expect to see the fantastic world and story-telling they know and love, too.

However, if the world of Exandria still feels too daunting, there will be a deep-dive video coming soon. Whether you’re new or need a refresher, one neat video will summarise the history of Exandria.

Mixing Things Up

As part of the State of the Role announcement, we’ve been warned about several changes coming to the show.

Described as a ‘wild ride’, we can expect to see a lot of new elements to this campaign. We’re not specifically told what these new elements will be, but they mentioned ‘new storytellers’. We don’t know yet who these new storytellers might be, what the rest of the changes are, or how they’ll be implemented, but don’t fret. While all changes are expected to be fun and refreshing – the show will still be, at its heart, the one we all fell in love with.

Another change we can expect to see affects the programming schedule. Firstly, episodes will continue to be pre-recorded as a response to the ongoing pandemic. Secondly, there will be no new episodes of the main campaign on the last Thursday of each month. The crew intend to use this slot to showcase new shows and material and give the cast a much-needed break. Not to mention, it will make it easier for those of us who are prone to falling behind!

New programming isn’t the only way Campaign 3 will look different: there’s a new set, too. Keep your eyes peeled for a behind-the-scenes video coming out soon with a detailed look at the new studio.

Finally, beginning sometime in early 2022, a new after-show will follow from the main campaign episodes. Talks Machina fans rejoice! The show’s name, host, and details are yet to be announced but stay tuned for updates.
