Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha – Best Guns

The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha shocked everyone when it was announced at the official multiplayer reveal event. Over the past weekend, the Alpha has offered a small sample of the game will when it releases on November 13.

There is plenty to be excited about with a Call of Duty game, but most importantly, new guns. During the Alpha, we saw some new guns with the return of some classics. So without further ado, these were the best guns to use in each category for the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha on PS4.

AK-74u

Alpha

The AK-74u returns to the Call of Duty franchise with a bang. It was the best gun in the Alpha and it would not be surprising if it receives a nerf ahead of the full release. Little to no recoil for a submachine gun that can dominate in close quarters and medium-range, the AK-74u should be your number one pick.

The MP5 and Type 821 were both decent weapons, but seem to be ideal at short range. These options are more fitted to smaller maps.

XM4

Alpha

The M4A1 or what it is called in this game, XM4, boasts a high damage output with low levels of recoil over short and medium distances. It struggles a little in long-range engagements compared to it’s Modern Warfare counterpart, but it might be one of the only guns to compete with the AK74u in up close.

The Krig 6 is ok but doesn’t feel quite as effective as the XM4 does. The AK47 is the same as always with extremely high damage output, but the low rate of fire hinders its overall performance. We may see this change going into the beta.

LW3 Tundra

Alpha

The LW3 – Tundra is easily the best sniper in the Alpha. It offers a one-shot kill from the upper chest and up, zooms in quickly and easy to quick-scope with. It definitely feels like you get more one-shot kills than you are meant to.

The Pellington 703 is also a decent choice. It has an increased rate than the LW3 but unfortunately, the lower damage trade-off isn’t worth it.

M16

Alpha

The tactical rifle section is new to the black ops series and both weapons in the Alpha are extremely powerful. Burst weapons are not usually a favourite, but the M16 is capable of killing people with a single shot. If you are accurate, this should be one of your top guns.

Type 63 is the second weapon in the tactical section and is a semi-automatic rifle which dominates at every distance. It offers a 2-3 shot kill with extreme accuracy. I feel the M16 only slightly edges it due to its lower fire rate.

RPD

Alpha

Light Machine Guns have always been a niche market in Call of Duty games and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is no exception. The RPD feels more like an assault rifle and not quite as ‘heavy’ as in previous games. It offers a decent amount of damage and fire rate but unfortunately shouldn’t be picked over any assault rifle at the moment. This could change before the beta or full release.

The Stoner 63 should be avoided. It is weak and struggles to deal enough damage for it to be effective.

Diamatti

Alpha

Diamatti is a burst pistol with a fast rate of fire. It takes a couple of bursts to kill someone but is more effective than the 1911. Hopefully, with the Beta release, we get a high powered revolver of some sort.

Gallo SA12

Alpha

Shotguns have returned as a secondary, meaning you can equip a Shotgun alongside an Assault Rifle or Sniper. The Gallo SA12 is the preferred choice and some players have just been running around with this as their primary weapon. It takes about 2-3 shots to kill someone with a decent fire rate and with attachments, it can become quite effective.

The Hauer 77’s range is a little too short for it to be an effective pump-action shotgun and we might see a buff in the future.

Cigma 2

Alpha

Cigma 2 is the only launcher in the game so far. Against vehicles and scorestreaks, it is extremely effective and will be a go-to weapon in destroying Attack Helicopters and Chopper Gunners.

The Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Alpha has concluded now and we have to look forward to the upcoming Beta. For people who have pre-ordered on PS4, the Beta opens on October 8, Xbox and PC will be available on October 15 and finally, it will be open to everyone on October 17.
