Can You Recruit Alfira as a Companion

Unfortunately, at this stage, there is no way to recruit Alfira as a Companion in Baldur’s Gate 3. The choices below are the best way to guarantee you see her throughout the game. We will update this guide if we work out a way to recruit Alfira.

The first meeting with Alfira is in Act 1 at Druid Grove. As you approach, you’ll find her to the east on a dirt path near a cliff’s edge. You will find her struggling with her song, giving players a chance to aid her creative process.

During this interaction, you’ll be presented with several dialogue options. The key to progressing with Alfira is showing genuine interest in her music and offering assistance. It’s important to note that there are two performance checks you need to pass, or the encounter will end. We suggest making a backup save here in case you make a mistake.

Select these dialogue options to progress:

  • What’s that tune you’re singing?
  • Let me see if I can help.
  • Hand me that lute. We can perform together.

Selecting the above dialogue choices will result in Alfira handing you her Lute. You must pass a performance check by rolling a 15 or higher. If you fail, Alfira will give you another chance where you’ll need a 10 or higher. Passing just one of these checks is enough to earn you a Lute, the ability to sing a range of songs, an increase in musical proficiency, and the end of your first encounter.

If you want to see Alfira again, you must ensure that you side with the Druids and the Tieflings to take down the Goblins and their leaders. If you side with the Goblin leader Minthara, Alfira will be killed during the raid of the Druid Grove.

The second encounter with Alfira will occur when she eventually finds her way to your camp after you’ve conversed with Kagha at Druid Grove. This encounter is much darker in tone. Here, she expresses a desire to join your band. If you accept, a gruesome scene unfolds where the Dark Urge awakens, and she is brutally killed. Leaving you covered in her blood and trying to explain what happened once you wake from your slumber.

Following this horrifying event, you have a few choices on how to handle the situation:

  • Investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
  • Attempt to conceal your involvement by cleaning up and hiding evidence.
  • Accept responsibility for the murder.

Players who selected the Dark Urge origin trait will have a more complex experience during this interaction. The dark thoughts that plague the Dark Urge become evident, emphasizing the profound consequences of the player’s decisions.

Rejecting Alfira’s offer to join the band seems to be the only hope of seeing her later in the game. As previously mentioned, at this stage, there doesn’t seem to be any way to recruit her as an official companion.

Can You Have a Relationship and Romance Alfira

No, you can’t build a relationship or romance Alfira. However, there’s hope for those wishing to connect more. You must follow these steps to keep Alfira alive and increase your approval rating with her, but, as previously mentioned, you can’t romance her.

When encountered at the Druid Grove, express genuine interest in her melodies, offer to help, and ensure you side with the Druids and Tieflings. When she finds your camp and requests to join your band, decline; while this might seem counterintuitive for romance, we hope that it could lead to more opportunities later in the game. Always keep in mind her approval guide, ensuring your actions align with her preferences.

The hope is, considering Baldur’s Gate 3’s size, that with high approval and by following these steps, players will stumble upon an avenue to deepen their relationship with the Tiefling Bard. Let’s remain optimistic and attentive to any emerging opportunities for romance with Alfira in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Managing Director
  1. Only the Dark Urge kills her, as it’s part of the Dark Urge storyline. You can’t get her as a companion and you can’t romance her.

  2. I’ll never understand why writers need to have deceptive headlines. This could have been titled something like “Getting to know Alfira” with the same content. Instead you leave readers (like me) angry and feeling like we can’t trust this website in general.

  3. If you’re DU and still don’t want to kill her, knock her out at the grove with a nonlethal attack and a random npc will take her place at the camp that night.
This way you can continue her story later on.
